Alaska Waste Offers Curbside Recycling

Over the past decade, the US has seen close to a 100% increase in recycling, however, fewer than 35% of households in the US actively participate in a recycling program.

Alaska Waste is proud to provide local recycling programs aimed at reducing landfill waste and conserving resources while providing a convenient solution for residents interested in participating in a recycling program.

Many Alaska Waste customers in Anchorage, Eagle River, and surrounding communities can to participate in Alaska Waste’s Curbside Recycling Program. This single stream recycling program provides an easy, convenient way for Alaska residents to do their part in reducing waste and conserving resources in our region. One of the greatest features of curbside recycling through Alaska Waste is that this is a commingled or single stream program, which means no sorting for the customer.

Single stream recycling is the easiest way for consumers to recycle household materials. Alaska Waste’s single stream recycling program allows for common household materials to be recycled together within the provided curbside recycling container. Residents can place mixed paper (newspapers, junk mail, magazines, phonebooks, cereal boxes, etc.), flattened cardboard, cans (aluminum, tin, steel), and plastic bottles in the provided container saving time and space sorting various materials.

In addition to the Alaska Waste Curbside Recycling Program, area residents also have the option of transporting their recyclable materials to the Anchorage Recycling Center or any of the other recycling drop-off locations throughout Anchorage. Many of these recycling centers also accept materials that are not accepted through Alaska Waste’s single stream recycling collection. If you would like more information about recycling non-commingled materials including glass, plastic bags, electronics, and large items such as scrap metal and appliances, contact us for a list of acceptable drop-off locations.

Recycling plays an important role in preserving our resources and surroundings for future generations. Currently nearly 75% of waste that is generated each day is recyclable, yet only 30% of it is recycled, and if Americans recycled even 1/10th of their newspapers, nearly 25 million trees would be saved each year. If you would like to learn more about curbside recycling or other recycling opportunities in the Anchorage area, contact Alaska Waste’s Anchorage office at 907-563-3717/
