Want to Create Less Holiday Waste?

Christmas Recycling: Less waste, more joy!

Want to create less waste this holiday season? There are lots of ways to recycle and reuse all those Christmas materials – even your tree.

Recycle these materials

Wrapping paper: Recycle in your curbside bin – even that shiny paper! Or, take it to the Anchorage Recycling Center or Anchorage Regional Landfill. Remove as much tape as you can. Paper that has foil or plastic wrap components can *not* be recycled.

Boxes: Cardboard boxes can go in your curbside bin. Or, take them to the Anchorage Recycling Center or Anchorage Regional Landfill.

Christmas cards: Christmas cards can go in mixed paper curbside recycling. Please throw them away if they are covered in glitter, or have plastic or foil on them.

Christmas trees: From Dec. 28 to Jan. 15, you can drop Christmas trees off at CARRS Safeway parking lots in designated area. Please, no plastic trees, or wreaths! Only live Christmas trees can be recycled.

Recycling Christmas Lights.

Christmas lights: The Anchorage Recycling Center accepts Christmas lights year-round. Total Reclaim can also take your lights.

Empty wine & apple cider bottles: Take your glass bottles to the Anchorage Recycling Center or Anchorage Regional Landfill. Please do *not* put glass in your curbside recycling!

Electronics: Total Reclaim can recycle your old electronic devices.

Plastic bags: Stretchy plastic bags can be taking to the Anchorage Recycling Center. Also, grocery stores have plastic bag recycling in their entryways. Please do *not* put plastic bags in your curbside bin!

Reuse these materials

When shipping gifts: Use old newspapers or other items that you’ve saved, like used bubble wrap, to extend the life of packing material.

Ribbons and bows: Save these and reuse next year!

Ornaments: Take to a thrift store. Throw broken ornaments in the trash.

Do you live in the Anchorage area, and want to start curbside recycling? Good news: Alaska Waste is offering 3 months FREE! Call our customer service at (907) 563-3717, or email us to sign up!
